On March 27, 2020, The President signed in to law the “Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act” or CARES Act, to help families ease the economic hardship that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused. This Act provides, among other benefits, a rebate of up to $1,200 for individuals ($2,400 for joint filers) and $500 per qualifying child. The rebate begins phasing out when incomes exceed $75,000 ($150,000 for joint filers).
Eligible individuals must not be non-resident aliens, and must have a valid Social Security number. Adopted children with ATINs (Adoption Tax Identification Number) may qualify. We will keep you informed about guidelines regarding this rebate as soon as the IRS makes them available.
